Dominic Shanahan, best known as the charismatic lead singer of The Fighting League, has launched his solo side project/alter ego Dominic Death. Foregoing the bells and whistles of a full band, Dominic Death creates introspective ballads that come across as a kind of folk-punk somewhere between Billy Bragg and Elvis Costello. “River of Gold” proves that Dominic can howl with the best of them.

TV Colours, previously known to some as Basketball Cards, is currently prepping his debut 7″ to come out on Dream Damage Records in the coming months. The Kids Are All Grown Up is the only track we have been able to get our hands on so far and it is easily the best thing we have heard all year. Peaked guitars and an overdriven drum machine back Bobby Kill’s depressing and nostalgic lyrics. Look out for big things from TV Colours this year.

Assassins 88 is a bass and drums combo from Australia. Their debut album “Go Go Second Chance Virgin” matches the simplicity of 60′s pop with the rawness of punk rock, all condensed into lo-fi fuzz. Described by the Rose Quartz blog as “young & dumb and pumping with hormones and cheap beer”, the album’s tracks are no-brainer epics that lay on the melodrama and pull at the heartstrings, and plays like a house party in a John Hughes film, making the Daniel Johnston cover at its end the perfect comedown.

Are The Brave All Dead were an indie-rock band from Canberra, Australia from 2001-2008. Its members are Andy Campell (vocals), Alex Alcazar (guitar), Lachlan Thomas (bass) and Dominic Shanahan (drums).

During their time together they released one self titled E.P recorded with Tony Dupe (Cat Power, Holly Throsby) and their song “children of the night” experienced Triple J airplay as part of the Unearthed Competition. They supported national acts Midnight Juggernauts, Dappled Cities Fly, Koolism and Soft Tigers.

This download is of their 2006 self titled and independently released E.P. recorded in the Kangaroo Valley N.S.W at Heavy Studios. This release is the culmination of the early years and songs of the band.
