The-Gashes

The Gashes were a post-punk band based in Canberra who only managed to last a few solid months after lead man Emmett Cotton packed his bags for the green pastures of Europe. The Gashes established themselves instantly as a flash-in-the pan band, who in in a few short months played a huge amount of gigs supporting The Stabs, The Witch Hats, Ohana and Spider Vomit .

The three piece, propelled by grinding bass lines flourished in its no wave influences to create a mash up sound of post-punk and garage. Victory for Boys being their only release captured the bands electric live vibe. Copies of the EP are still available through Birds Love Fighting.

The Fighting League »

the-fighting-league

Since forming in 2008 the band has headlined many shows and supported bands like Young and Restless (Melbourne) and M.O.T.O (US). Fronted by its charismatic lead singer Dominic Death, The Fighting League are renowned for their intense performances and party-punk anthems.

Their debut recording This is (violence) The Fighting League was recorded with the assistance of band From the South in a makeshift studio in the suburb of Downer. Songs include the infectious “Lets Go Dancing”, anthemic “Crystal Night” and “See Your Face”, raw punk “She takes Medicine” and ballad “Jesus”.  Known for putting on unforgettably energetic shows, seeing them live is a must.

Golden Buoy »

Golden-Buoy

Golden Buoy were a band based in Canberra for about a year around 2007. These three tracks blend a number of different sounds;  tribal beach-punk with apocalyptic surf guitar, blaring over the fuzzed bass, and all drawn together in synth lines which make me want to pull out Dr Dre’s The Chronic.
