Dream Damage Records is proud to announce the release of Jonny Telafone’s new album Wherever the Wind Blows. Now available to order online, Wherever the Wind Blows sees Telafone turn to folk with a collection of ballads and acoustic pop songs about un-requited love, mental illness and werewolves. The artwork was done by the always amazing Andrew Darragh who is currently in the early stages of putting together the Dream Damage Zine. A launch show is being planned for late April and we’re only able to put out 50 copies of the tape so get in quick.

***Other updates with the label: Both the TV Colours 7″ and Assassins 88 7″ have had big delays with the mastering and pressing. The tracks are ready to go and I’ve almost finalised all of the cover work (which look dope) so fingers crossed these will be out soon! Also it’s early days but we’re looking to help put out tapes for ///▲▲▲\\\ and Summer Vacation in the very near future! Stay tuned.***

After dropping the melancholy weight of his first release, Lets Hear It For Love grew on me pretty fast. Its a different feel, but I dig it.

Dash Jacket »

Spacer

Dash Jacket are a band based in Orange County, California. They play a mix of noisy pop and psychedelic punk and have an amazing knack for melody (and feedback). Their online release “Blah Blah” moves from wailing noise to slacker beach jams to jangly pop punk. They were recently posted on Pitchfork Forkast and are well deserved of the praise. Check them out. Is It Saturday Yet? and Coastal Sang are D.O.P.E.

Assassins 88 »

assassins88

Assassins 88 is a bass and drums combo from Australia. Their debut album “Go Go Second Chance Virgin” matches the simplicity of 60′s pop with the rawness of punk rock, all condensed into lo-fi fuzz. Described by the Rose Quartz blog as “young & dumb and pumping with hormones and cheap beer”, the album’s tracks are no-brainer epics that lay on the melodrama and pull at the heartstrings, and plays like a house party in a John Hughes film, making the Daniel Johnston cover at its end the perfect comedown.

False Jesii is Daniel Morrison. A local teen who spends most of his time in Beijing. Bedroom Blues is his first release and is in similar vein to a lot of noise pop acts out now, lo-fi tunes awash in reverb and fuzz. Someone described it best as bedroom punk.

The Death Posture is the second full length album by Jonny Telafone. The Death Posture is a trip down a black hole into the dream pop shoegazing soundscapes of Jonny Telafone’s demise. Synth-pop love ballads which are reminiscent of the melancholy feedback of The Jesus and Mary Chain blended with the minimal synth drones of Salem or Telepathe.

The video for the title track Doomed in Love can be seen here:

Jonny Telafone

Jonny Telafone is a solo artist based in Canberra. Jonny Telafone has been writing and recording music in his bedroom for as long as I’ve known him. The following is his 2007 release “Magik”. A collection of Low-Fi pop songs that span the early years of his recordings.

There is dark nostalgic undertone that resonates over the entire album; suburban boredom, sexual frustration and the occult all make up the persona of Jonny Telafone. Check him out at Last FM here.
