Assassins 88, TV Colours »

Assassins 88 and TV Colours teamed up earlier this year to record for a split 7″ with Catholic Spray, out on French label XVIII Records. The resulting tracks were ‘Trouble’ and ‘Lethal’. Written and recorded in one day, the tracks are as much kickass gutterpunk as they are glorious nostalgic pop. You can purchase the record from their bandcamp or direct from Eighteen Records. Listen and download below.

**For anybody in New Zealand, you can catch both Assassins 88 and TV Colours playing shows in Auckland next week.**

Dream Damage Records has just released the “Beach People EP”, the fourth official release for Canberra Noise-pop duo Assassins 88. “Beach People” is now available for streaming and free download from their bandcamp.

“Beach People” is the intended four track EP follow up to 2009’s “Go Go Second Chance Virgin”. Originally scheduled to be released early last year as a stand alone 7”, it was shelved in favour of an Assassins 88/TV Colours split 7”. Shared on both releases are the sleazy garage pop of “Beach People” and the psychedelic folk of “Raising Phoenix”. This EP features two additional previously unreleased tracks. “Summer Vacation” is an ode to Chevy Chase road trips and greaser doo wop, clocking in at just under a minute in length. “Wildwood Girl” is a ballad inspired by a video made in the 1990’s about the infamous boardwalk of Wildwood, New Jersey, where teenage girls would maim each other and ride roller coasters.

Trading bass for guitar, this EP is a lot shinier and dynamic than previous Assassins releases, but still holds the same rawness and grit. The EP was recorded and produced by Michael Bylztrra (of Teddy Trouble) in the summer of 2009/2010, with artwork by James Nascent.

Assassins 88 are currently writing for their sophomore album.

In celebration of the cult digital release of Assassins Kaneda EP, Dream Damage Records is releasing a highly limited edition on Mini-Disc. Featuring a clear-dual case, sticker insert sleeves, unique individual fluro colour discs and complete with digital track listing. For those that don’t remember MDs were a technology developed by Sony in 1992, intended to revolutionise the music industry and bring music into the digital age. In the early 00′s it gained popularity as a replacement for CDs, but the industry was destroyed by the file sharing revolution. This Digi-Cassette release* is an ode to a future utopia that could have been.

The song “Wildwood Girl” by Assassins 88 will be included in their forthcoming Beach People EP, which is due out next week. The original concept for the release was inspired by the 1994 documentary, Wildwood NJ, so its pretty fitting that the band used footage from the film in this video.

Assassins 88, TV Colours »

Dream Damage Records is psyched to announce the release of Assassins 88 & TV Colours Split 7″ (now available to order online). Assassins have swapped the bass for guitar, with less noise and more melody. Both tracks were recorded in a shed last summer, with Mike from Teddy Trouble. A new EP will be available for download in February. TV Colours is the one man recording project from home town hero Bobby Kill. His side is some of the catchiest punks anthems out with The Kids Are All Grown Up named top song of 2010 by Polaroids of Androids. TV Colours is gearing up for the release of his debut LP out later in the year.

Assassins 88, Live »

Last weekend ASSASSINS 88 literally brought the rain. It was so hot inside that the camera kept fogging up and by the end it was raining sweat. Pretty disgusting now that I think of it.
